The Landmand Golf Club in rural Nebraska has become the toughest place to book a tee time in the U.S., attracting golfers worldwide. Josh Gardner and Jared Stiver, two regular guys from Wyoming, recently had the opportunity to play this course in the inaugural The Heartbeat tournament, a Golf Channel creation. Their experience was nothing short of extraordinary, leaving them in awe of the course's scale and challenge. The course, carved out of the treeless Loess Hills, spans nearly 600 acres, with fairways as wide as football fields and greens that can be four to six times larger than typical American greens. The scale and challenge of the course, coupled with its modest $175 greens fees, have made it a coveted destination for golfers. The course's unique features, such as the massive greens and howling Wyoming-esque winds, presented a formidable test for Gardner and Stiver. Despite their initial doubts, they managed to finish in 19th place out of 52 teams, a remarkable achievement. The experience was not just about the golf; it was also about the people and the passion behind the course. Owner Will Andersen, Golf Channel host Gary Williams, and the course's architects shared their knowledge and history, providing Gardner and Stiver with a deeper appreciation for the course. The duo's visit to Landmand left a lasting impression, and they presented Andersen with a spur with hearts cut into it made by renowned Sheridan craftsman Tom Balding, as well as a copper shot glass from their hometown Mint Bar. The experience was so impactful that Gardner and Stiver are already planning their next visit, despite their initial reluctance to play again. They are now enjoying their few minutes of golf-envy fame back home, sharing their stories and advice with their golfing buddies.
